Ching Chow
and
Ching
Lum Shee
Preface
The
purpose of this booklet is to record as much as possible of the lives
of Ching Chow and Ching Lum Shee.
Most
of the information was given by their eldest daughter Bernice Ching
Lum with the assistance of her daughter Jocelyn. Also, son Ping Quon
Ching with the help of his wife, Blanche, was able to recollect and
write about some interesting facets of his father’s life.
Putting
together this booklet was an “on again, off again” project for
many years for son Donald’s wife Bea, and their family, especially
daughter in-law Lorraine. She with her family gave the project
inspiration and clerical help needed.
More
information about the Ching genealogy may be found in the Ching
Family ancestral Register. The 26 volume 6th
edition was published in 1924. Ching Chow was one of the first to
contribute to the printing of this sixth edition. He received his
set of books about 1938 and was the only one in Hawaii to own the
set.
The
26
volume
6th
edition is intact and in very good condition however, it was written
in formal academic and even archaic Chinese. The Ching Clan
initiated a translation by Yip-Wang Lau entitled “The Genealogy of
the Ching Family in Nam Long.”
The
first part of this book traces the history of the Ching family from
its progenitor Shi Mang Gung or Ching See Mung of Soochow about 1070
AD, thus starting the Ching family about 900 years ago.
The
second part covers the genealogy charts of about 30 generations of
Chings. To research one’s individual family roots from this is a
difficult process.
The
booklet called “The Ching Chow Family Lineage” was compiled by
Douglas Chong after many months of labor.
Completing
the Ching Chow roots is Ping Quon and Blanche Ching’s “Ching Chow
Genealogy Charts – 29th
Generation – plus.”
Please
CONTINUE these.
